Native from Costa Rica, Gustavo Vega Vega, known behind the turntables as "DJ Vega", developed at an early age the appreciation for music and its different beats. A deep taste for latin music made him start as a hobby, what today is a succesful career as a DJ.
A very peculiar technique and the spontaneity of mixing good music made him one of the most remarkable DJ's of this genre in this country.
His life as a DJ started back in 2003 when his devotion and passion for music took him to spin for the first time at one of the most popular bars in San Jose. By incorporating hip-hop beats to his repertoire, new doors opened for him as he started spinning at other well-know bars in town.
At the beginning, getting new music and proper equipment to play professionally were the biggest obstacles for Vega; however, thanks to his dedication and enthusiasm he managed to carry on with his passion.
By 2004, with a lot more experience, his skills took him to other places participating in the huge Heineken Music parties and mixing at the "Reggaeton Sessions".
With a style of his own and a very versatile alternative, he opens the "Hip-Hop Sessions" at the prestigious Club Vertigo's lounge, on events with some prominent international DJ's establishing himself with great acceptance among his public and peers, taking him to open Julieta Venegas' concert, a very famous mexican artist.
His success increased greatfully during 2005, when he decided to mix Reggaeton style music, influenced by Don Omar, Daddy Yankee, Wisin & Yandel, T.O.K and Sean Paul among others. This being one of the most contagious and accepted rythms, his talent was now recognized by his fans and peers and by the end of the year his attendance to the biggest and main parties for young Costa Rican people was essential; Copa Yaris, Menea tu cuerpecito, Main Floor with DJ Rap and Las Delicias ( second consecutive time ) are some of these parties to be mentioned, besides performing in concerts with national artist Tapon and Banton & Ghetto.
His original style and his awesome performances at these parties later took him to other towns not only in Costa Rica, but places like San Juan del Sur in Nicaragua and Panama City in Panama, leaving a satisfied crowd to whom he promises a future presence.
Nowadays, his music style collection also embraces rythms such as reggaeton (strong point), merengue, hip-hop, latin house and dancehall, besides recently beginning to experience with progressive house and electro, willing to improve in this different field.
Some of his projects for 2006 are working deeply on the elaboration and production of new remixes with original ideas, and expanding his horizons to countries like the U.S.A and Canada, taking reggaeton style to a bigger spreading.
Vega is very well known for his original mixing style using a very interesting technique combining a broad range of beats and the artists' voice on top of them while scratching, as if he's using vinyls at the same time, allowing a more creative and less employed type of mixing by DJ's in this genre.
Good combination of beats, his constant dedication for music and the vibe transmitis while he plays, make Vega one of the most vibrant and successful DJ's in Costa Rica, wrapping it up in a true Latin Fiesta!!!
